In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, you could see that not everything was fair, whether it be the fact that you were a man, a woman, black, or white. Being a white man you had the most rights of everyone. A white woman had rights but was restricted in some things (such as being a member of the jury). A black man or woman was typically a slave and was discriminated against by the white people. Today everyone has equal rights no matter who they are. Needless to say there is always stereotyping, but that is the closest thing we have to discrimination. There is always stereotyping no matter who you are, it can be based off of what sports you play, what you look like, what classes you take, who you hang out with, your hobbies, even your family (relations). Yes, it may be wrong but everyone does it, whether they are meaning to or not.

In the book Lord of The Flies by William Golding, I saw that life may sometimes appear to be all fun and games, but it is really a lot of hard work. In order to stay alive, the boys attempted to use their best judgment; in reality their best judgment was not very good. The boys had to figure out how they were going to feed themselves, keep safe, keep the fire burning (so someone could find them), and stay sheltered. They saw the worst and the best in one another; each person had something that they were best at. If the boys would have all worked together, things all would have turned out better in the end. Some boys got so caught up in the game of hunting that they did not see how terrible the things that they were doing truly were. I believe the lesson Golding was trying to show was that we need to work together and become one. When divided nothing gets done and it does not help anyone. Why not become one and have every task accomplished and helping everyone?

The “truth” of mythology describes natural events, why things are the way they are in today’s world. Throughout each myth there is a big picture or a point to be proven. I have learned that a myth can show you all about one’s culture and explain why they may be the way they are. I have realized through reading a few myths, how much a myth can make you think about someone or something, and how each character reacts to a certain situation and how they could have reacted instead. This also relates to the real world because it shows that everyone has their own personal way of doing things, in this case how they react to each situation.
